Ode to September

 

ODE TO SEPTEMBER

Twas the night before September, and all through the house,

Not a customer was stirring, not even a mouse.

The linens were hung, and the beds made with care,

In hopes that some guests would soon be here.

 

Our critters and us were all snug in our beds,

While visions of customers danced in our heads.

With Dawn in her office and I in my shop,

We had just settled in after a summer nonstop!

 

When out of the office there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my work to see what was the matter.

When what to my wandering eyes did appear,

Our September was empty, not a customer was near.

 

We have to solve this problem, said Dawn with a yell,

We can’t waste September, in her excitement, almost fell!

So a special we’ll run, while finding her shoes,

10% off all cabins, the whole month through.

 

When what to our wondering eyes did appear,

Happy customers coming from far and near.

Come enjoy our campfire and night sounds alike,

S’mores, horseshoes and fishing to your delight.

 

As I whistled and shouted and called them by name…

 

Now Dawn, now Smurf, now Sweet Pea and Freckles,

On rooster, on chickens, on ducks and fishes.

From the bottom of the hollow, to the top of the hill,

Come visit, come visit, come visit us still!

 

Enjoying our place and spreading good cheer,

We couldn’t be happier with all our guests here.

And I heard them exclaim as they drove out of sight,

“Merry September to all and to all a good night!”
